Two thugs shot dead in Gikomba Market

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 25 – Police on Friday morning shot dead two thugs who were harassing members of the public at Gikomba Market in Nairobi.

Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome told Capital FM News that the two were caught by undercover officers snatching belongings and mugging people. When accosted, they attempted to fight but were subdued.

Koome said that one thug escaped in the incident which took place near the Machakos Bus stop at about 11.00am.

“During the incident, there were three thugs who were harassing the public. They were pick pocketing, mugging some and even attacking and robbing others,” he explained.

“Of course when our undercover officers saw this, they accosted the men who started to fight them. However, our men were well trained and managed to fatally injure two of them. The other managed to escape,” he stated.

The police boss further indicated that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure there is security and says any criminal activity will be dealt with firmly.

“Let anyone try anything during this festive season, they may not see the next year, so this is a warning to all those who may be seeking to disrupt the peace within the city that they should desist from doing so as we are very alert,” he stated.

The Police boss also urged Kenyans not to overindulge especially in drinking alcohol during this period.

Koome stated that this can results in accidents leading to loss of life.

He further said this may leave someone susceptible to attacks by criminals since they may be too drunk.

He stated that that officers from the Administration Police, the National Youth Service, the CID, the Anti-Terror Police Unit and the Diplomatic Police are patrolling various parts of the City to ensure there is adequate security.
