According to eye witnesses the bus was sprayed with bullets by people suspected to be Al Shabaab militants.
Kenya Police spokesman, Charles Owino who confirmed the incident however told Capital News, that the actual number of casualties and those who could have sustained injuries is still yet to be established.
“There was an attack on a bus. We are waiting for details. There could be casualties but we are yet to get accurate details of the incident,” Owino said.
Owino says they have deployed massive operation to hunt for the attackers.
Questions have been raised as to why the driver proceeded without police escort, in an obviously risky area.
The road has numerous road blocks along the way.
