Travelling with the Pope; a journalists’ perspective

As the Pope said, the trips can be physically draining and it amazed me the energy the Pontiff had. Like when we arrived in Uganda and he was still at an event in Munyonyo as night fell. No signs of fatigue.

“It is physically tiring. Yet you have to have the ability to discern what’s important and what’s not. It’s however a privilege covering the Pope and travelling with him,” Miguel acknowledges.

“I have other colleagues here who have made more than 100 trips with the Pope!” She recalls there is a colleague who has been on 140 Papal Flights.

Even though she’s based in Lisbon, Miguel frequently travels to Rome and is an expert on matters Vatican. “When the other Popes were on holiday, I would relax. This Pope is not going on holiday! He’s an unpredictable man. You never know what will happen with Francis.”
