Ruto tells off ‘reckless liars’ out to sabotage the economy

Speaking during this year’s Jamhuri day celebrations at Nyayo National Stadium, Ruto said Kenya is a democratic country and any Kenyan has a right to demand for answers on case of misuse of public resources.

“And because we are committed to our democratic mandate, we are prepared to be held to account by all institutions of governance and by Kenyans in their own individual capacity. We are prepared to answer questions of any nature, in the use of public funds,” Ruto assured, in an apparent reference to the raging Eurobond debate, in which the government is accused of failing to account for some Sh140 billion.

But even as the government works towards accountability, the DP said they will not tolerate political noise aimed at lying to Kenyans even when there is no money lost.

CORD leader Raila Odinga has been in the forefront making the claims, and is now required to face detectives at the Ethics and Anti Corruption (EACC) on Monday.

Ruto argues that when the spirit of propaganda and baseless allegations reigns, this too, undermines the efforts of the country in fight against corruption.

“All those engaged in matters of propaganda or baseless allegations are at best either outright reckless liars or at worst, economic saboteurs who are against the economy of our country,” Ruto said, although he did not mention the Opposition leader.

With the corruption debate taking centre stage during this year’s celebrations, Ruto called on all leaders to work with government in fighting corruption and not politicking on the menace which, he said, makes things worse.

At the same time, Ruto put on notice all corrupt leaders especially those in government adding that no one will be spared in matters corruption.

“There is no junior or senior. There is no big or small. There is no opposition or government when it comes to the war against corruption,” he said.
