NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 30 – It was a joyous moment for Lena Kalunda and her family who were among the parents and students thronging Makini School, Nairobi after the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results were released on Wednesday.
“I am so happy and I thank God and my teachers because I wouldn’t be here if it were not for them,” she said after scoring 433 marks.
Prayers and practice of the bible teachings especially the values of obedience is one that she kept close throughout her period in school.
“Trust in yourself and keep working hard. Listen to your teachers and you will do well. I prayed a lot too,” she recalled.
She said she has already set her bar very high with the impressive marks and will not lower it even after she starts her secondary education next year.
Makini is among the private schools in the country that posted impressive results, as explained by the school’s Executive Director Mary Okelo.
“We are happy, we give glory to God, because quite a number of our students have more than 400 marks,” she said.
Of the results received at the time of the interview, the highest student at Makini Schools – Stephanie Ogida scored 439 marks.
Aggrey Akhanyinya of St Joseph’s Academy in Kakamega was this year’s top candidate in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education after scoring 449 marks out of the possible 500.
“I worked very hard and you can see the results, when I grow up Iwant to become a neurosurgeon,” he said.
Hewais followed by Wilson Muragu, Linus Munene Kirianki and Collins Kipkoech of Chelsa Academy in Bomet who tied with 446 marks.
“I would like to join Alliance High School and my career aspiration is to become an Aeronautical engineer,” Collins said.
Felistus Onduso of Gilgil Hills Academy who scored 445 marks is the top girl nationally followed by Naomi Gakui of Happy Land Buru Buru came third with 442.
Trezzor Birhange tied with Daniel Ngira with 441 marks.
Tender Care Junior Academy in Komarock is among the schools that produced the top candidates, after Osman Ali scored 440 marks.
Other schools that produced candidates with high marks are Consolata Primary School, Nairobi, St. Juliana Academy, Strathmore, Kitengela, Maryhill Stead School, Nyeri among others
927,789 candidates sat the 2015 KCPE examination across the country.
