Kirubi gets Ghana’s Grand Medal Award

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 12- Industrialist Dr. Chris Kirubi is among 33 distinguished personalities who were awarded during this year’s Ghana National Honour and Awards Day held on Friday.

Dr. Kirubi who was awarded with a Grand Medal award was recognized for his immense contribution in deepening bilateral relations between Kenya and Ghana.

This was especially when he served as Ghana’s Honorary Consul to Kenya from the year 2000 to 2008.
“In recognition of your distinguishes and dedicated Consular Services to Ghana, the Republic of Ghana hereby confers on you; Dr Christopher John Kirubi, The Hour of The Grand Medal,” said Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama presenting him the prestigious award on Friday evening.

“As Honorary Consul of Ghana in Kenya you diligently provided consular services ranging from the issuance of visas and sale of passport application forms to counselling and intervening on behalf of Ghanaians with the host authorities,” President Mahama said in the citation.

Dr. Kirubi has also played a great role in improving business relations between Kenya and Ghana investors when he served as a member of Ghana Investors Advisory Council for seven years from 2002 to 2009.

“It is on record that you used your business network in Kenya as leverage to enhance the long-standing cordial relations between Ghana and Kenya,” President Mahama noted, and added that “to this end you became an important investment advisor to both Ghanaians and Kenyans wishing to invest in other’s country.”

Apart from his contribution to the Ghana government, Kirubi was also recognised for his other accomplishments including being among the leading Kenyan entrepreneur, industrialist and philanthropist with diverse investments in Media, Manufacturing, Property Management and Insurance.

“I am delighted to receive this award from the government of Ghana, this is a great honour,” Dr Kirubi who is also the chairman of Capital Group Limited said.

Dr. Kirubi has been a recipient of numerous honors and accolades with the recent one being the ‘Insignia of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour’ by the French Government this year.

In acknowledgement of his contributions to the field of entrepreneurship, Kirubi was conferred with an Honorary Philosophical Doctorate in Entrepreneurship by SMA University, Switzerland in 2012.
