NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 23 – Residents of Kericho County and Malindi Constituency will go to the polls to elect their new Senator and MP respectively on March 7,2016.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Issack Hassan made the announcement moments after House Speakers Ekwee Ethuro and Justin Muturi issued writs declaring the two seats vacant.

Political Parties will be required to finalize party primaries and intra-party dispute resolutions before January 22

The IEBC chief says candidates will be required to present their nomination papers to the IEBC Returning Officers for the two exercises on February 8 and 9, 2016.
The Kericho County Senate and Malindi parliamentary seats fell vacant after Senator Charles Keter and MP Dan Kazungu resigned following their appointment to the Cabinet to take up the Energy and Petroleum docket and the Mining docket.

The Election Act states that unless there is a court order in place, the by-elections must be conducted within three months of the occurrence of the vacancy.
