MOYALE, Kenya, Dec 8 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged leaders from Marsabit to foster peace among communities living in the county.
President Kenyatta, who spoke during a meeting with the leaders in Moyale town, said the government will enhance development projects in the region but called on them to ensure sustained peace.
He said the tarmacking of the Merille-Moyale road will be completed soon and the government will embark on more infrastructure projects in the area.
President Kenyatta said the government will also fulfill a plea by the local leaders to establish a medical training college in Moyale.
He called on Governor Ukur Yattani to allocate funds from the Marsabit County budget to contribute to the development projects being implemented.
The meeting was attended by elected leaders as well as community leaders. Besides the local leaders, the meeting was also attended by Governors Doyo Godana (Isiolo), Hussen Dado (Tana River) and Ali Roba (Mandera).
After the meeting President Kenyatta addressed residents of Moyale and promised them that the government will undertake all measures to turn the town into the “Dubai of the Horn of Africa”.
He said with the completion of the tarmac road, Moyale will be easily accessible from Nairobi and will see its economy improve.
The town is also set reap benefits from the LAPSSET project with an oil pipeline crossing from Kenya into Ethiopia through the twin town of Moyale.
The President urged the youth to reject to be misused by selfish leaders who exploit them to engage in violence.
“Do not let violence ruin development and ask those leaders who ask you to engage in violence to use their children,” he said.
The President said the government is focused on delivering development and does not have the time to engage in arguments.
“We want to work for development because too much noise will not help the people,” he said.
