Pope chooses Honda as his mule into Nairobi

POPE'S-HONDANAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 25 – Despite his importance and popularity in the world – which of course earns him the status of a VIP – Pope Francis drove in a simple grey Honda Ballade from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to State House Nairobi.

His simplicity brought back the memories of his trip in the United States of America where he rode in a Fiat.

From Jomo Kenyatta International Airport , the Pope and his entourage used Mombasa Road and drove through Uhuru Highway to State House Nairobi.

True to what the world has come to refer to him as the People’s Pope, the Holy Father was driven sitting on the back left but with all the windows open.

He waved at crowds of people gathered as he smiled at them. He made some brief stops at some of the roundabouts to wave at the people.

One of those who waved at the Pope is four-year-old Daniela Kabira, who was excited to share with her mother her first encounter with the Holy Father.

“Mum, I saw the Pope, he waved and smiled at me and Nyaboke and Mogeni (her friends). He was in a car and Uhuru Kenyatta was also in another car,” she recounted.

Many would have expected Pope Francis to spend his two nights at a six-star hotel, he instead went to the Apostolic Nuciature in Westlands which will be his residence for the two nights.
