Mutua had accused Muthama of plotting his impeachment to scuttle his development agenda in light of the ongoing turf wars between him and his deputy, which have been running for over one year.
“Mentioning my name is not new, he should leave me alone and fight his political battles,” said Muthama.
He explained that even if Mutua’s impeachment was brought to the Senate, it would not be the first time an impeachment motion was before the House telling the Governor to stop being an escapist and respond to concerns that he is undermining and mistreating his running mate.
Mutua made the allegations after appearing before a Senate committee to respond to allegations of mistreating his deputy Bernard Kiala, saying the recent attacks on his administration were part of a campaign by those afraid of his Maendeleo Chap Chap philosophy.
“It has always been my submission from the beginning that the intent was to always try to remove me from office so that Kiala could be the Governor because he is easier to control than I am by Muthama so that they can engage in unconstitutional activities,” charged Mutua.
He said since he stood in the way of outlets through which Muthama and his cronies could grab land and defraud the people, the two had decided to work together to bring him down, insisting that he would not budge.
“Kiala is an errand boy for Muthama,” he stated.
MPs who flanked Mutua led by Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), John Munuve (Mwingi North), Joe Mutambo (Mwingi Central), Rachel Nyamai (Kitui South), Regina Ndambuki (Kilome) and former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile lauded his development agenda further urging Kiala to stop the politicking and work with him to better the lives of the electorate.
“One hopes and prays that these sideshows will stop so that the Governor can continue doing his job,” said Munuve.
“I think Kiala is doing somebody else’s job, he is incompetent,” said Ndile.
Mutua said the agenda of political detractors would not flourish promising to work for the people ‘whether the leaders want it or not.’
For over one year, the relationship between Mutua and his deputy has been sour with each accusing the other of malice.
Kiala claims he has not been invited to any Cabinet meeting for the past one year while his allowances have been frozen.
Mutua however insists that Kiala has failed to honour invites to attend meetings saying he should in fact be surcharged for earning an undeserved salary.
He said his Maendeleo Chap Chap initiative would go on and he would not be distracted by endless wars that were not beneficial to the people of Ukambani.
