MP wants counties to set aside 10pc for health services/FILE
Kangata says he has wants the public to submit views on his proposals which is already before Parliament.
“I am going to provide that a certain percentage of that money is ring-fenced for health matters and we also protect health workers to ensure they are given the adequate attention by the county,” he said.
The amendments by the first-time MP also seek to create an Inter-County Health Commission whose mandate will be to manage the employment, supervision, deployment and transfer of health workers without interfering with the mandate of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
“I am going to recast it such that it will comprise county officials, it will be will be something like the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) only that this one will be related to medics.”
Kangata is calling on the Health Cabinet Secretary to support his bid which he believes will fix the crisis in the healthcare system in the country.
“I am calling upon members of the Executive, particularly the CSs who have this notion that once we pass a Bill here they go and lobby the President to reject the Bill. If they don’t support the idea or they would like to improve the idea to forward to me any presentation,” the Kiharu MP explained.
He added: “But otherwise I think the way this Bill is going to rescue our health sector who is presently failing Kenyans.”
Poor working conditions and constant strikes by medical workers and the resignation of doctors in various parts of the country has been attributed devolving the function to county.
