NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 11 – Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter is now accusing National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi of blocking the impeachment process of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

Keter says despite garnering support from enough MPs who signed his impeachment motion, Parliament has written to him saying it does not meet the required threshold.

Keter is now accusing the Speaker of frustrating his efforts, instead of allowing the motion to go to the floor of the House for debate.

The first-time MP from the United Republican Party earlier presented a similar motion which was rejected for not having sufficient signatures from MPs.

He however says he has managed to collect 180 signatures.

On Tuesday, Waiguru was questioned by Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission over corruption allegations in her ministry.

Speaking to reporters following a six-hour grilling at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) her lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi said that she is not a suspect and emphasised the need for the process not to be politicised.

He stated that due process should take its course and expressed hope that thorough investigations will be conducted and all guilty officials brought to book.

“The Honourable Cabinet Secretary is neither a suspect nor an accused person. At best, she will be a witness to this matter. It is not fair to politicize this process or point an accusing finger on anybody,” Ahmednasir said.

“The due process of the law should take its course and we will appreciate politicians especially who are at the sunset of their political career to stop politicizing or ethnicising this process,” he added.

Abdullahi pointed out that Waiguru has been unfairly accused and was traumatised by the accusations against her.
