President Kenyatta said breaking down the state departments into 41 and putting a Principal Secretary in-charge of each is intended to increase accountability and eliminate corruption which is most prevalent in the area of procurement.
He said he increased their number following consultations with the Public Service Commission and a day after outlining his strategy to combat run-away corruption in government.

The changes include the exclusion of individuals facing graft cases such as now former Planning Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti and Nduva Muli who was the PS Transport.

Other notable changes include the inclusion of Betty Maina, the former CEO of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers as PS East African Integration and brother to prominent politician Julius Sunkuli, Charles, as the PS Environment.
Ambassador Monica Juma who Parliament rejected as President Kenyatta’s Secretary to the Cabinet nominee leaves the Interior Ministry for Foreign Affairs replacing Karanja Kibicho who is now the Interior PS.
Nicholas Muraguri has been promoted from the Director of Medical Services to the Health PS while Belio Kipsang and Colleta Suda remain in the Ministry of Education.
President Kenyatta said he would within the fortnight also announce changes to the management of his office.
In an effort to kick-start his ‘war’ on corruption, President Kenyatta urged the National Assembly to fast-track the vetting of his nominees.
