Kuria appeared before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo who ordered that he be remanded until Friday when his bond application will be determined.
The prosecution is opposed to Kuria’s release, accusing him of violating previous bond terms in similar offences.
In the new charges, Kuria is accused of inciting his constituents to slash anyone opposed to NYS projects, allegations he denies.
The troubled legislator was arrested on Tuesday on orders of Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko for incitement to violence.
Tobiko found that there was sufficient evidence to sustain the charge of incitement of violence against Kuria.
“The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has recommended that Kuria be charged with the offence of incitement to violence contrary to Sec 96 (a) of the Penal Code. Upon independent review, the DPP is satisfied that the evidence on the file is sufficient to sustain the recommended charge,” a statement from his office read.
Videos uploaded on YouTube showed Kuria, following the destruction of NYS projects in Kibera, telling those members of his constituency in the NYS not to restrict themselves to slashing overgrowth with their pangas but as his militia, slash those opposed to the then Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru or the NYS projects.
Kuria went on record as saying he had no regrets before later claiming that his statements were taken out of context through malicious video editing.
