“I don’t see it as I am giving up something for another, it is about serving the people – there is no conflict in my view,” he said.

He added that he had received outpouring support from the Malindi people and was excited that he was pitted to be the first ever cabinet Minister from the region.

Since independence Malindi has never produced a Cabinet Secretary, I am glad to have broken the jinx,” Kazungu continued.

Despite having a thriving career in ICT, the soft spoken Kazungu says he is ready for the challenge in the mining sector stating that he is used to handling tough assignments.

The mining sector is fairly new and Balala is the first CS, I think he has done well by putting the right infrastructure in place now it is for us to execute,” he added.

His first agenda once formally appointed after vetting would be to initiate programmes that would ensure Kenya’s bid to be a formidable force in the mining industry in the region is achieved.

“There will be a lot of hard work and consultation from the shareholders in the industry to ensure the Jubilee manifesto with regard to mining sector is met,” he continued.

The father of two adds that once vetted and formally appointed he will work with outgoing Mining CS Najib Balala to review the progress of reviving stalled projects.

“I just don’t want to meet the targets, I want to surpass and shatter them so as to make Kenyans proud,” he stated.

He said the new team was a ‘distinguished’ lot who would steer the country in the right direction.
