NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30 – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) nominee Chairman Phillip Kinusu and four nominated commissioners are expected to be vetted by the National Assembly this week.
Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly Micheal Sialai said the five have been slotted to appear before the House Justice and Legal Affairs Committee this Wednesday.
According to the schedule published by the House, Kinusu will be the first one to face the team chaired by Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga, followed by Dabar Abdi Maalim, Philip Mwaniki, Sophia Lepuchirit and Rose Mghoi Mtambo Macharia who were nominated to serve as commissioners during sittings to be held at the County Hall.
The nominees are required to present compliance certificates from the EACC, Kenya Revenue Authority, Higher Education Loans Board and a Certificate of Good Conduct from the Criminal Investigations Department alongside their National Identification Card, academic and professional certificates and other testimonials.
The nomination comes after former Chairperson Mumo Matemu and Commissioners Irene Keino and Jane Onsongo resigned six months ago following the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate allegations of corruption and abuse of office after Parliament approved a petition that sought their removal from office.
Onsongo had resigned earlier, even before the National Assembly had debated a motion on the commissioners’ suitability to serve.

Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso last week informed MPs that they may be recalled from their December recess in order to approve or reject the nominees of the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission.
The House may have to hold a special sitting because to comply with a 21-day timeline required for them to make a decision of the President’s nominees.
