NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 – The ruling on a request by the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko for the court to re-open the inquest on slain university student Mercy Keino will be made on Wednesday next week.

According to the DPP, during the inquest crucial evidence was tampered with and he emphasised the need for the matter to be cleared.

Tobiko had ordered a public inquest into her death after police investigations failed to establish the truth behind her mysterious death.

Keino’s body was found on Waiyaki Way two years ago, after she attended a party hosted by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo at Wasini Luxury Suites in Nairobi.

Kabogo, in his testimony, denied assaulting Keino, saying the idea of bringing up his name was politically motivated.

In February, government chief pathologist Johansen Oduor told an inquest that Keino sustained fatal injuries before her death, but acquired more injuries after death.

Dr Oduor, who conducted the autopsy on the body, testified that it was difficult to determine what killed Keino because of the multiple fractures she had.

According to him, the autopsy could not ascertain whether she was killed elsewhere and her body dumped on the road or whether she was hit and run over by a vehicle.
