This follows frequent breakdown of ferries at the Likoni channel, leading to a crisis earlier this week when dozens of people were injured while scrambling for one ferry that was operational.
Principal Secretary John Mosonik stated that the ministry will dispatch a team to probe alleged corruption in the procurement and maintenance department that has led to numerous breakdowns.
He revealed that the ministry has so far received two complaints of corruption at KFS.
“The probe is with regards to corruption at the Kenya Ferry management. I have received a couple of complaints regarding the management and I am going to package it and send it to investigative authorities to ensure that it is dealt with accordingly,” he stated.
He further pointed out that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has also launched investigations into the allegations.
This week, Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa called for removal of the organisation’s managing director following the stampede at the ferry crossing occasioned by a breakdown of three ferries.

Ferry users have called on the KFS management to find a permanent solution tothe delays experienced whenever ferries break down.
Police and Kenya Red Cross officials were deployed at the busy channel to control commuters and motorists.
