Marwa calls for removal of Kenya Ferry boss

MOMBASA-FERRY-CHAOSNAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 26 – Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa has called for removal of the Kenya Ferry Services Managing Director following Monday morning chaos at the Likoni Ferry crossing.

This follows frequent breakdowns of the existing ferries at the channel, leading to a crisis as was the case earlier on Monday when dozens of people were injured while scrambling for one ferry that is operational.

“I will repeat this a million times that the only solution is to remove the Managing Director; he must go. He has failed,” he stated.

Kenya Ferry Services withdrew three ferries Monday morning after they broke down leading to massive jam at the busy channel that links Mombasa Island and the mainland and there has been no official statement issued on the matter.

Ferry users have called on the ferry services management to find a permanent solution for the delays experienced whenever ferries break down.

“This has become a norm…every now and then a ferry has to break down,” one of the angered ferry users said.

Some blamed the county Government of Mombasa for failing to put enough measures to curb this.
