NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 1 – Two State Counsel based in the Kisumu office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) were arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Tuesday.

The detectives drawn from the EACC’s Kisumu office and the Nairobi headquarters nabbed the two as they allegedly received a Sh15,000 bribe from a complainant to reinstate a case.

Herbert Sonye Okumu and Jared Kipyegon Ruto are therefore facing charges of corruptly soliciting and receiving a benefit from one Henry Omolo thereby abusing the public offices they hold.

EACC spokesman Yassin Juma told Capital FM News that the prosecutors received the bribe in exchange for reinstating a case which police had recommended be dismissed.

He said the suspects will likely be arraigned on September 9.

The integrity of officers attached to the DPP’s office and the EACC was most prominently questioned following the release of the infamous #ListofShame.
