The four other gold medalists have headed to seek more glory at the Diamond League in Birmingham this Thursday.
Speaking after being received with pomp and color at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), the men’s 3000m steeplechase champion and captain of the Kenyan team Ezekiel Kemboi attributed their success to the hard work and prayers of the entire country.
“I am happy to be here with the Kenyan team and we want to thank you very much for receiving us like this. Beijing was wonderful and we are all very happy. We want to thank you for your prayers,” he said after being received at the airport by leaders including Deputy President William Ruto.
Others welcomed by the DP include 400m hurdles winner Nicholas Bett and Javelin Star Julius Yego.
“On behalf of the government of Kenya and all of us from Kenya, want to congratulate the great work that was done by our team in Beijing. They have not only won but they have also made history. We have always done well but this is exceptional,” the DP stated.
The team is now headed to for a major ‘Welcome Back Home’ event at the Deputy President’s official Karen residence ahead of another breakfast meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi on Thursday.
