NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 10 – Police have recorded statements from four witnesses over allegations facing ‘Dr’ James Mugo Ndichu alias Mugo wa Wairimu who is accused of drugging patients and raping them in his Nairobi clinics.

Head of the Serious Crimes Unit at the CID headquarters John Kariuki said they have not however arrested ‘Dr’ Mugo who is also accused of operating the clinics – located in Githurai and Zimmerman – illegally.

“We are urging more people to come out and volunteer information that can help in the case,” Kariuki said.

Police launched a manhunt for the ‘doctor’ following public outcry sparked by a Citizen TV expose that showed a man believed to be Mugo allegedly sedating and raping a woman in one of his clinics.

His Facebook account has been active, often assuring the public that he is safe and will present himself to the police at the “opportune time.”

His two clinics that were closed on Monday remain guarded by police after angry mobs threatened to set them ablaze.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist’s Board has already dissociated itself with Mugo whom it said operates with no legal documents “because he is not a registered doctor.”
