Sonko in court over Thika Road and rumble strips

THIKA-ROADNAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 26 – Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has moved to court seeking orders to compel CS Infrastructure and Transport and the Kenya National Highway Authority remove bumps and rumble strips along Thika road.

Sonko complains that the bumps and rumble strips are to blame for traffic jams experienced on the busy highway during peak hours.

Through his lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, the legislator wants the court to visit two specific points with bumps and rumble strips for it to make a determination on bumps and the rumble strips.

“The applicant wishes to thus demonstrate that he is not merely lodging proceedings for the sake of it, but to the intent that a just and fair decision will be made in accordance with the courts mandate,” he said.

He said that upon the court’s own assessment of the two points; its discretion can be exercised based on actual facts fully verified as opposed to deciding the matter without the benefit of such evidence.

The court will make a ruling on September 2 to determine whether to issue the orders sought by the applicant.
