MACHAKOS, Kenya, Aug 24 – Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has urged Australian investors to establish businesses in the County saying it will boost strong economic pillars.

Speaking when he hosted Australian High Commissioner to Kenya John Feakes, Dr Mutua said the County had created a conducive environment for investors and had attracted over Sh1.5 trillion worth of investments in the new Machakos City.

The Governor said his government will pursue the Australian government water management partnership program.

Mutua said that Machakos County government will learn from the advanced Australian agricultural industry and in particular the growing of sweet sorghum.

On his part, Feakes announced that Australia will offer scholarships and training programmes for Machakos residents and officials.

“I am impressed by what Mutua is doing in the area of health, water and agriculture among other fields. Keep up the good work,” said Feakes.

The Machakos County government recently initiated a Sh2.5 billion water program that will see over 300,000 homesteads equipped with clean piped water.

Already, boreholes are being sunk at the location level before cascading to sub location and village level.

During his visit of the County, the Australian High Commissioner also toured the upgraded Machakos Level Five Hospital where he proposed Machakos and Australia to enter into a medical exchange program for health workers.

Dr Mutua welcomed the proposal saying it will boost the expertise in the county. He noted that the county has a shortfall in various fields including surgery and research.

He said the County can also learn from the advanced Australian agricultural industry and in particular the growing of sweet sorghum.

Later Mutua hosted Feakes to a luncheon at the Governor’s Office and formally invited the High Commissioner to tour the County with his family.

“I invite you to tour our beautiful county and sample what we have in the tourism circuit. We have a lot to offer,” said the Machakos Governor.
