ICT Ministry wants counties fully automated by Dec

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, who is the Council of Governors Chairman in Charge of Finance, however implored Matiang’i to help them source for alternative funding as they were hard-pressed for cash despite fully supporting ICT development.

He also urged the ministry to work with them and train county officials on the use of ICT since the concept was new.

He also pointed out that counties were developing their version of Huduma Centres to ensure residents’ access county government services under one roof.

Kitui Governor Julius Malombe who was present called on the CS to unlock the frequency jam to enable counties establish their own radio stations.

His sentiments were shared by Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto who said the stations would enable them have candid discussions with the residents about development projects and also the challenges they face.

Matiang’i said they had developed the guidelines for county broadcasting which would be submitted to the CoG to give input before onward transmission to Cabinet and later to Senate for approval.

Among Governors present at the meeting were Kinuthia Mbugua (Nakuru), Moses Akaranga (Kakamega), Sospeter Ojaamong'(Busia), Cornell Rasanga (Siaya), Ahmed Abdullahi (Wajir) and John Mruttu (Taita Taveta).
