NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 10 – The Westgate shopping mall is expected to re-open on July 18, nearly two years after a deadly terror attack there left 67 people dead.

The mall’s anchor tenant, Nakumatt Holdings says plans are in high gear to reopen doors to the iconic retail store and shopping mall.

Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul Shah said the resumption of business there marks a major milestone for the country and tenants.

“At Nakumatt Holdings, we are preparing for the opening and looking forward to welcome our loyal customers to come enjoy a new in store layout, wide stock variety and fresh ambience,” Shah said.

Nakumatt Westgate will now cover more than 80,000 square feet on multiple floor levels.

The revamped Nakumatt Westgate will also feature a full-fledged Nakumatt Select Concept store to showcase its range of private brand household products.

During the inter-faith prayers last May, Westgate Mall Managing Director Alex Trachtenberg, confirmed that tenants who have taken up space at the mall will soon be moving in, to commence their respective stores outfitting ahead of the reopening.

Many of the tenants, have since then progressed well with their store outfitting.

Christ is the Answer Ministries Presiding Bishop David Oginde during the Prayer service, delivered a sermon focusing on overcoming challenges.

“As Christians, we believe in resurrection and we believe that Westgate will be stronger and better. We cannot forget what happened here but we come back with boldness knowing that evil cannot overcome; good,” Oginde said.
