NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 31 – The Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has approved charges against former Chief Registrar of Judiciary Gladys Shollei.

In a statement issued late Friday, Tobiko said he is satisfied with evidence gathered by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) which recommended abuse of office charges against Shollei.

“Upon independent review of the file, I am satisfied that the evidence is sufficient to sustain the recommended charges,” Tobiko said. “I have accordingly directed prosecution to ensure immediately.”

Shollei will also face various other criminal offences related to wilful failure to comply with procurement laws and regulations.

Shollei who insists she is innocent will be charged alongside other officials who served at the Judiciary’s tender committee during her tenure.

Shollei has previously accused the EACC of delaying to conclude investigations against her, insisting she is innocent.

At the same time Tobiko also agreed with Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission to close inquiry file against Narok Governor Samuel ole Tunai over procurement of various services by the county government.

The inquiry file against the Investment Secretary Esther Koimett was also closed.
