NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 3 – Sarah Obama says her grandson, US President Barack Obama should make time to visit his father’s graveside in K’Ogelo when he arrives in the country later this month.

She is also confident that he will eat anything she prepares him including omena and porridge.

“President Barack Obama has to come and see the grave of his father. The finer details of his itinerary are still being worked on as per the words of the US Ambassador,” she said.

She made the comments when she paid a courtesy call on Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Friday morning.

“Whether Obama is a Senator or a President, he will eat any and all types of food be it omena, chicken, fish, obambla and even porridge. Whatever people eat, he also eats, he does not choose and I will prepare everything for him,” she said through an interpreter.

It remains unclear if Obama will visit his father’s hometown when he flies into the country for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit.

Governor Kidero indicated that it is expected that there will be minimal disruption of activities within the city during the visit by the US President.

“Our lives will be normal during President Obama’s visit. Life in Nairobi will go on and I am sure President Obama would want life for Nairobians and Kenyans to go on even when he is visiting,” he stated.

He pointed out that the visit by the US leader despite the numerous travel advisories imposed on the country is a plus for Kenyans.

“It is a vote of confidence for our country. We have had travel advisories and if the President of America can travel it means that those travel advisories are not of any significance. Kenya is safe, we have seen a lot of visitors coming, you have seen the report this week that the number of visitors have started going up, and of course there has been a lot of concern about security but this has not prevented many from coming in. By and large Kenya is safe and Nairobi is safer,” he said.

“Our vision is to make Nairobi the city of choice for investment, the city of choice to live in, the city of work and being the hub in East and Central Africa, we are always ready for guests so there is not much being done out of the ordinary. But you know according to African culture, if guests come, the children eat the bones, so probably we have done a bit more because a special visitor is coming up,” he added.

Sarah Obama was the third wife of US president’s paternal grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama.

Obama’s late father was born in K’ogelo and grew up there before travelling abroad to study, where he met Obama’s American mother in Hawaii.

It will be Obama’s fourth visit to Africa since becoming US president, but his first to Kenya, since taking office in 2009.
