Kibera recalls Obama’s 2006 visit

He also laid a wreath at the August 7 Memorial Park where he met survivors of the 1998 bombing of the U.S. Embassy which left 248 dead.

The climax of his visit was in Kogelo, a small village in Nyanza where his father grew up.

Thousands of ecstatic onlookers lined up along streets and surrounded the homestead in which he met his grandmother Sarah Obama.

At the time his agenda was to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS.

To demonstrate key emphasis on responding to the disease, Obama took a public HIV test to encourage others to do so.

Kenya was among the four countries in Africa in which Obama stopped to reconnect with his roots but also pass the message of fighting HIV/AIDS.
