Led by its patron Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi, the leaders claimed motions and petitions presented to Parliament recommending the removal of certain individuals from office were crafted to cripple the implementation of the government’s agenda.
NAIROBI, Kenya, July 7 – The Central Kenya Parliamentary group has accused the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) of plotting to destabilise the Jubilee government.
Led by its patron Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi, the leaders claimed motions and petitions presented to Parliament recommending the removal of certain individuals from office were crafted to cripple the implementation of the government’s agenda.
“The top leadership around President Uhuru Kenyatta is being peeled off like layers of an onion. We see this as a process, this is not an accident, this is a grand CORD strategy to remove key pillars around President Uhuru Kenyatta with intention of weakening the government,” said Murungi.
Murungi claimed CORD had a hand in the sacking of former Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia, suspended defense PS Mutea Iringo, Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau as well as the woes facing Interior PS Monica Juma, embattled Devolution CS Ann Waiguru and education CS Jacob Kaimenyi who faces possible impeachment after Matayos MP Geofrrey Odanga moved a motion of to censure him.
The MPs who were seemingly trying to save face after they opposed the nomination of Monica Juma to the position of Secretary to the Cabinet pledged allegiance to President Kenyatta blaming CORD for the shake-ups within his Cabinet.
Despite failing to clearly point out the scenarios where CORD had sabotaged the government, Murungi said the opposition was bent on bringing down the Jubilee government further warning their members against falling into the trap and supporting agenda originating from members of the party.
“As leaders we are not going to allow some MPS either driven by personal agenda or backward divisive political forces to derail the Jubilee government from its agenda,” stated Murungi.
He shielded Education CS Jacob Kaimenyi and Devolution CS Ann Waiguru saying they were victims of a political witch hunt.
“The allegations have no substance. We urge all jubilee Members of Parliament to vote against the motion sponsored against Kaimenyi,” he added.
He went on to taunt the CORD leadership over their actions telling them to be careful not to bite the hand that fed them.
“We have no doubt that come 2016, CORD will be knocking on the doors of State House looking for President Uhuru Kenyatta,” quipped Murungi.
Following their rejection of Monica Juma, Jubilee MPs were branded as rebels with President Uhuru Kenyatta registering his disappointment saying they had denied him and the nation the service of an officer who would have been central to the Jubilee administration’s transformation agenda.
However a section of MPs allied to Jubilee have openly stated that they will initiate the removal of Juma from the Interior docket where she is PS saying since they had found her not fit to hold the position of secretary to the Cabinet, she should also not hold any other position.
The motion has to be drafted and brought before the House.
The Meru Senator at the same time lauded Central Kenya MPs for responding to the call to eliminate illicit brews further calling on President Uhuru Kenyatta to extend the crackdown for another month.
The leaders said the clean-up had so far been successful and if more time was granted, a framework would be developed as part of a long-term measure of dealing with the alcohol menace.
