In a pamphlet produced by the Presidency’s Political Affairs Office and seen by Capital FM News, the government has listed Healthcare, Education, devolution, infrastructure, Land, security, energy, public service, democracy and an increased economy as part of its remarkable achievements.
In the booklet titled ‘One Kenya, Economic growth and Openness (Umoja, Uchumi na Uwazi), the government has listed the successes achieved by various ministries, including Health, Interior and National Coordination and the Education docket.
The most successful initiatives under the Interior docket, it says, include the construction of 16 lanes for screening vehicles entering the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with full body scanners, the recruitment of 10,000 police officers in a bid to enhance security and the institutionalization of the ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative.
“We are establishing a command and control center in Nairobi at a cost of Sh18 billion, 47 CCTV cameras across the CBD. This will also be rolled out in Mombasa and Kisumu,” the pamphlet states.
The government also pointed out that in a bid to reform the Security sector which has undergone a myriad of challenges, it intends to roll out the Police Insurance Scheme to provide cover for police officers in a bid to boost their morale since most are inadequately remunerated.
And In a bid to support efforts of other countries across the world trying to counter the global warming issue, the ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources boasts of planting 3.1 million trees through the green schools project thereby increasing tree cover from 6.9 percent to 7.4 percent.
Poaching has also reduced by 34 percent with stricter penalties drafted for poachers.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has lately carved the ministry, separating the water docket which will now be headed by Eugene Wamalwa whose nomination was approved by the National Assembly.
In its midterm, the Jubilee administration says it has disbursed Sh24.8 billion for free primary education, Sh21 billion for subsidized Secondary education to benefit 2.1 million students, implemented the school feeding program, spent Sh350 million to equip 244 secondary schools with a package of 11 computers, a printer, an overhead projector and other accessories for the computer laboratories as well as increasing primary schools enrolment from 2 million to 8.9 million.
The cost of power, the government says, has also gone down significantly with the cost of connectivity having reduced by 57 percent from Sh35, 000 to Sh15,000.
The government has also partnered with counties to enhance access to healthcare by setting aside Sh38 billion for the next seven years to cater for the medical equipment leasing scheme which will see level five hospitals have state of the equipment including theater, dialysis, laboratory and cancer equipment.
During the two years the numbers of maternal deaths have lowered significantly following the introduction of free maternity services, and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s initiative of distributing mobile clinics to all the 47 counties.
The government is also boasting of implementing the much publicized Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), the first time since independence to construct a railway line.
The Devolution ministry on its part says it has seen the restructuring of the National Youth Service (NYS) and increased its recruitment while at the same time establishing Huduma centers in major towns across the country to help Kenyans access government services like acquisition and replacement of Identity cards, registration of businesses among others.
Under the lands ministry, the government says 2.1 million title deeds have been distributed; several grabbed parcels of public land returned and land registries re-organised to hasten the process of transacting on matters land.
