NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 29 – Most parts of the city and its suburbs will go without water on Wednesday and Thursday following a shutdown of the Ng’ethu Water Treatment Plant.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company on Monday said the shutdown will pave way for maintenance works intended to improve water supply in the capital.
“The Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company Ltd would like to inform its esteemed customers that there will be a scheduled shutdown of the Nge’thu Water Treatment Plant on Wednesday 1 July 2015 from 6am to Thursday, 2 July 2015 at 6pm. The shutdown will enable maintenance works to be done at the plant inlet – phase dividing chamber which will further enhance water production,” the company explained.
The shutdown will affect the whole of the city centre, University of Nairobi main campus, Coca-Cola factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and EPZ in Athi River.
Other areas that will experience water shortage are areas along Mombasa Road among them South B, South C estates and surrounding areas.
The whole of industrial area will go without water as will estates on Juja Road, Mlango Kubwa, Mathare, Eastleigh Airforce Base, Huruma, Kariobangi, and Pangani will go without out for the two days.
Jogoo Road, Maringo, Buru Buru and Bahati will also be affected by the shutdown.
Estates along Outering Road such as Baba Dogo, Dandora, Umoja, Donholm, Fedha, Tassia, Avenue Park and Nyayo Embakasi will as well go without water as will areas along Thika Road, Kangundo Road, Limuru Road and Mountain View.
The shutdown will also affect water supply around the United Nations in Gigiri, Muthaiga, University of Nairobi School of Law and the City Park area.
The water company urged Nairobi residents to start storing water and use it sparingly during the two days.
“Whilst every effort will be made to restore the supply of water, we request all customers in the affected areas to use their storage water sparingly during the period of the interruption. Any inconvenience is highly regretted.”
