Tobiko wants his office to peruse through the files and make a decision on the alleged IFMIS fraud/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 24 – The Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko on Wednesday asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to forward files on the alleged National Youth Service (NYS) fraud to his office, once their probe is complete.

Tobiko wants his office to peruse through the files and make a decision on the alleged Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) fraud.

“I write therefore to request that at the conclusions of the ongoing investigations, the resultant inquiry file(s) be forwarded to this office for perusal and appropriate action,” he wrote in a letter dated June 24, 2015 addressed to the DCI.

Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru invited the DCI to investigate the fraud which she said could have led to a loss of Sh828.6 million.

The Banking Fraud Investigations Unit is said to have identified the processing of some tenders for road construction and supply of building materials used by NYS in various development projects undertaken in the informal settlements.

It is understood that the cyber crime detectives are still investigating to uncover the second transaction of the tenders to supply the materials.

On Tuesday, rowdy youths in Kibera burnt down a toilet and a clinic constructed by NYS.
