NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 26 – Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has now given Governor Evans Kidero seven days to apologise or face a court action for allegedly linking him to drug trafficking.

In a letter by his lawyers to the Governor, the Senator says that Kidero at a past function claimed that the Sonko Rescue Team ambulances were being used to ferry drugs instead of helping needy residents of Nairobi.

He has threatened to sue the Governor for defamation if he does not apologise.

” It is very ironical that the ambulance are roaming in our roads in full sirens for people to assume someone’s health is in danger only to find out that ambulances are dashing drugs to a place” Kidero is quoted to have said.

The Senator’s lawyer argues the words could be interpreted to mean that his client is engaged in dubious businesses.

Sonko’s demands come barely hours after the Governor himself issued a similar threat to Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale for linking him to Mumias Sugar Company woes.

Kidero denies involvement in the allegations, instead crediting himself for the growth of the company when he headed it.

“The explanation for the poor financial health of MSC will not be found by pointing sinister fingers at innocent people, either maliciously or because of culpable ignorance. Focus should be on what really ails the company. If anything has gone wrong after I left, surely I cannot be held responsible,” said Kidero earlier in a statement.
