NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 9 – Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary nominee Eugene Wamalwa has dismissed reports that his nomination into the Cabinet is calculated at the next General Election.

Wamalwa who was speaking during his approval hearing before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments tickled MPs when he said that he considered the next elections will still be a two-horse race.

“You will not see me doing politics. I was part of the Kenyans with presidential aspirations. You can recall, the former Prime Minister told us, that there are two horses in the race and the rest of us were donkeys; I did not want to believe it but it came to pass that, indeed, it was a two-horse race and the rest were pundas (donkeys). I don’t see much changing in 2017,” Wamalwa said.

He was responding to queries from House Majority Leader Aden Duale, Keiyo South MP Jackson Kiptanui and Ijara MP Ahmed Abbas who wanted to know how he was going to balance his budding politics aspirations and being a Cabinet Secretary.

The former Saboti MP and Constitutional Affairs Minister said he had quit his leadership post at the New Ford Kenya in order to be able serve Kenyans in a new capacity.

Duale further sought to know why Wamalwa with a self-declared net value of Sh400 million, was interested in getting into the thankless world of the public service.

Is your case the same as that of Hillary Clinton, who quit her US Secretary of State job and who is now the front runner for the Democratic Party nominations; would you look Kenyans in the eye, and put on record so that if in January 2017 you resign from government and go and pick up your NFK party and team with Mudavadi of the Amani Coalition, we can play that clip to tell Kenyans that you have gone against you word?” posed the Majority Leader.

The former New Ford Kenya chairman said that the job of a CS as nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta was important to him as he will get the chance to serve Kenyans.

Wamalwa told the committee chaired by House Speaker Justin Muturi that he does not have any wish to run for any political position in the 2017 elections and that he is only focused on his new role as Cabinet Secretary.

“I have shelved my presidential ambitions to serve in this docket. I want to serve this nation in another capacity,” he said.
