NAIROBI, Kenya, June 8 – Property of unknown value was destroyed on Monday afternoon when fire broke out at the Mayfair Centre in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.

The fire is reported to have started from the rooftop of the building located on Ralph Bunche Road.

Acting director at the Disaster Management Centre, Pius Masai said the fire had been contained but there were no immediate reports of its cause.

“There was a very good condition between the management of this building and the rescuers…the most important thing are that there were no injuries,” he stated.

He warned that, “if anyone is responsible of the inferno, the law will take its course.”

Business was disrupted for several hours at the building that also houses the Judicial Service Commission and a financial institution also.

People working within the building highly praised the Nairobi Fire Service for their quick response saying the fire would have extended to other floors.

“The response was very swift and even when leaving the building we were very organised thanks to the security officers around,” a lady only identified as Atieno said.

Another said, “That the fire brigade was here in less than twenty minutes and thanks God there were no injuries.”
