Kariuki, Procurement Officer Purity Wanyaga, public works officials David Kiseli and Anthony Munene together with contractors Lydia Muthoni and Genson Leonard have been accused of flouting procurement procedure when they entered into a Sh20 million contract for the rehabilitation of Embu Municipal Stadium.
Kariuki also denied the additional charge of abusing her office by awarding the contract for the rehabilitation of the Stadium to Mumu General Suppliers without the approval of the tender committee.

Meanwhile seven Machakos county officials on Monday – for the second time – failed to plead to the charge of single sourcing 14 Subarus for the county executive committee members, “that were not only overpriced but older than allowed,” an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) report reads.
Other county officials who have been charged with graft following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s March 26 tabling of the above referenced EACC report in Parliament include the Turkana county executive in-charge of roads Tioko Logiron and his superintendent Lawrence Lolli for rehabilitation works on the Kaputir-Loyapat- Kainuk road not done but paid for in full at Sh9 million.
The Trans Nzoia Public Relations officer and a procurement officer have also been charged with misappropriation of funds.
Six Nyamira county employees were also charged in May with the irregular procurement of medical cover valued at Sh30 million.
No county ‘big fish’ – in reference to the 12 governors under investigation by the EACC – have thus far been charged.
