NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 2 – Lamu West MP Julius Ndegwa will now face charges after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko agreed with the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission’s decision to arraign him in court over graft.

He is said to have irregularly withdrawn Sh1.6 million from Lamu West Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Project Management Committee Account allocated for the construction of a cattle dip.

The DPP recommended that Ndegwa, the CDF Account Manager and the CDF Project Management Committee in Lamu West constituency be charged with various criminal offences.

The DPP further agreed with EACC that Embu County Secretary Margaret Kariuki and three other county officials in Embu face charges for awarding ‘a contract for the rehabilitation of Embu Municipal Stadium without following the applicable procurement procedures’.

Joseph Tevulo and other officials of Trans Nzoia County will also face charges over irregular award of tender for the renovation of Kenyatta Stadium in Kitale.

The tender was awarded by the County Government of Trans Nzoia to WestEnd Company.

Last week, DPP recommended that suspended Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau face charges over corruption. He rejected a recommendation by EACC to have suspended Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi charged for abuse of office, saying there was no sufficient evidence.

The court on Tuesday ordered that Kamau appear on Thursday to face charges of abuse of office.
