NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 15 – Four more Al-Shabaab suspects have been killed following a failed terror attack on a military base in Lamu over the weekend.

According to the Kenya Defence Forces, this brings the number of those killed to 15.

KDF spokesman David Obonyo stated that the four were pursued during air and ground operations and gunned down within Boni forest on Sunday night.

“More firearms were recovered from the four believed to be part of militants who had attempted to attack the military base in Baure, 39 km from Barogoni Military base,” he stated.

He indicated that Anti-Terrorism Police Unit officers are now conducting fingerprinting and DNA tests to establish the identity of the attackers.

He stated that they were seeking to establish whether wanted terror suspect, a British convert Thomas Evans Aka Abdul Hakim was among those killed by KDF.

Hakin travelled to Somalia in 2011 to fight alongside the Al-Shabaab terror group and is believed to have converted to Islam while he was 19 years old to become suicide bomber.

Another suspect Lukman Osman Issa aka Sirwa who is suspected to be behind last year’s Mpeketoni massacre was also killed.
Issa is brother to 2002 Kikambala bomber, Osman Issa, who is currently serving sentence in Sudan.

Security agencies launched major operations in Lamu and Garissa counties on Sunday in pursuit of Al Shabaab terrorists following the two failed attacks.

In Lamu, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet stated that police are pursuing more than 170 Al Shabaab militia who escaped into Boni Forest following a foiled attack on a military camp in Baure area.
