NAIROBI, Kenya, May 22 –Police will redirect traffic in Nairobi, Mombasa, Machakos and Mumias on Saturday morning to accommodate the 11th edition of the Mater Heart Run.

In Nairobi, the runners will start from the Nyayo Stadium at 7.30am and go up Uhuru Highway, turn up Haile Selassie towards Nairobi Club and on to the City Mortuary roundabout where they will come down Mbagathi road to T-Mall and back to the Nyayo Stadium through the Madaraka roundabout and Aerodrome road.

Motorists coming from Langata road will therefore access the City Centre through Lusaka road as will those coming from Mombasa road.

Motorists seeking to access the City Centre from Ngong Road will do so through Valley Road while those seeking to access Ngong Road from the City Centre are advised to use the Nyayo House roundabout.

The Upper Hill to Bunyala roundabout will be totally closed as will Aerodrome road, for the length of the run.

Parking for the runners will be available at the Christian Foundation Fellowship Church at the Bunyala roundabout, the Moi Educational Centre, Nakumatt Mega and Toyota Kenya.

In Mombasa, runners will start at 9am at Mombasa Sports Club, go up Mbaraki Road, through Mama Ngina Drive and back to the Mombasa Sports Club through Mombasa Sports Club, State House and the Kizingo roundabout.

In Machakos, the runners will start at the Kenyatta Sports Stadium at 8am, turn into the Machakos Show Ground, up to and through the Machakos Peoples Park before turning back to the Stadium.

The run in Mumias starts at 8.30am at Booker Academy.

Motorists using the affected routes have been advised by police to exercise caution and keep their speeds no higher than 20km/h as thousands of school children will be participating in the run that aims to raise money for the corrective heart surgeries of hundreds of children.

Last year, 50,000 people participate in the run and helped raise Sh62 million which was used by the Mater Hospital’s Cardiac Programme to repair the heart defects of 229 children and to screen 18,000.

This year the run’s organisers, Capital FM included, hope to raise Sh70 million which will be used to ‘touch the hearts’ of 250 children.
