NAIROBI, Kenya, May 26 – Pressure is being piled on the government to contain the volatile situation in Yumbis, Garissa County where police officers were attacked on Monday night.
The police officers were ambushed a few days after police thwarted another attack in the area.
Kenyans on social media specifically want National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale to make public a list of terrorist financiers.
Through the hashtag #PleaseRemindDuale, agitated Kenyans on Twitter led by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale challenged the government to rethink its security approach in Garissa that continues to remain prone to terror attacks.
Duale had promised to release a list of financiers of terrorism within 30 days following the Garissa University College terror attack that left 148 people dead but later changed tact.

A massive security operation has since been launched in Garissa, following the attack.
Reports from Garissa indicated more than 20 police officers were missing in the ambush as they headed to rescue their colleagues. Some attackers were also believed to have been killed.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said two police officers were critically injured during the ambush while three others sustained injuries.
In a statement to newsrooms, the police boss confirmed that five police vehicles were burnt down during the incident.
He said a combined security operation by police officers and the Kenya Defence Forcers was underway in a bid to contain the situation.
“An operation to subdue the attackers was is on course and as we establish more information, we shall inform the public accordingly,” he stated.
Boinnet warned people from posting alarming information on social media and assured he would keep the public up to date on developments there.
