“The kiosks outside learning institutions provide a disguise to criminals who pause as traders yet they are monitoring the movements and studying the resident’s movements before they strike. This has come to our attention and we are doing this to avert any impending attack whether large or small scale,” spokesman in the Governor’s office Walter Mong’are said.
He called on Nairobi residents to report any kiosk owners who may defy the directive to bring down their establishments.
“If there is such a need around the school, why don’t we have such services in the school? That way we are able to monitor what is being sold and to who and we can then hold the school responsible for any malpractice” he added.
The notice for owners to bring down their establishments lapses on Wednesday when the demolitions will kick off.
The last time a similar operation was undertaken, weapons were recovered in several kiosks whose owners were suspected to have been colluding with criminals.
The operation was carried out in Westlands, Kangemi, Buru Buru among other areas but City Hall officials have said the latest operation will be carried out across the city.
This is part of the initiative by the county government in conjunction with the national government to engage through formalized and consultative forums that will see both governments share security briefs regularly and consistently.
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has insisted on the need to incorporate county governments in security management affairs to be able to secure the country, in the wake of terror attacks and other criminal activities.
