Speaking during the launch of the first Machakos Jobs fair, Mutua indicated that other then help the youth earn a living, this will improve the country’s economy.
The Machakos Governor emphasized the need for concerted effort in this endeavor as it will also enable the country achieve its vision 2030.
“If you are a shopkeeper, or mechanic garage owner, distributor, wholesaler, banker, medical center operator, transporter, media and arts practitioner, supplier, contractor forfeit 10,000, 50,000, 200,000, a million shillings as profit but know that you have touched, empowered and changed lives in our country by employing someone,” he stated.
During the event in Machakos, a platform dubbed ‘XABA’ by Safaricom and Seven Seas was launched. Dr Mutua stated that for the country to achieve the targets set by the National Government s of our 2030 “there is need to pull together.”
“Today, not everyone will get a job but we will register you and even give you opportunities for training and whenever a job opens up, employers can find you in XABA and you are interviewed. Each company set up here is interviewing and hiring about 10 people and Machakos University College is registering people for technical training,” he said.
He explained that the high unemployment rate has led to social problems facing the youth in the country.
He stated that the solution to the high unemployment rate will require innovative solutions and this will give hope to the youth.
He stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government has created an enabling environment that supports youth empowerment and that Machakos County government will take it to the next level for the sake of the residents there.
