NAIROBI, Kenya, May 7 – The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) says it has forwarded six more files involving high profile officials to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for action.

The EACC said the six files were part of 25 files that a multi-agency team from the DPP’s office and anti-graft commission has been reviewing.

“Out of the 25 files, seven files have been cleared and forwarded to the DPP for his decisions,” Halakhe Waqo, the EACC Chief Executive Officer said.

On April 17, DPP Keriako Tobiko made a decision on one of the seven files and ordered charges against senior employees of the Nairobi County Government.

“In one of the files, the DPP gave his consent to charge the suspects who were arraigned in court,” he said.

The six pending files include one on Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria who is said to have sworn a false statement in the self-declaration form he submitted to the EACC in December last year.

The other involves an inquiry into claims that Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter and nominated MP Sunjeeve Birdi allegedly threatened police officers at Gilgil Weighbridge.

The remaining files involve an irregular allocation of a tender to NSSF, misappropriation of Sh15.9 million grant to the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) and allegations that the Kisumu County Speaker made an irregular contract.

Waqo said it was the intention of the EACC to clear the remaining files in the next few days and forward them to the DPP.

“In the meantime, the commission assures Kenyans that the process is progressing well and we will be finalising the investigations and forwarding to the DPP more files in the coming days,” he pledged.

He further urged those summoned by the commission to cooperate but also avoid showing up with crowds of supporters.
