NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 9 – President Uhuru Kenyatta will be represented in all funerals for the 148 people killed in last week’s Garissa terror attack.

A State House official told Capital FM News that Harambee House was under firm instructions to ensure government officials were dispatched to all the burials starting Friday.

The officials will also deliver personal letters authored by President Kenyatta to condole the bereaved families following the loss of their loved ones who were executed by Al Shabaab militants.

Capital FM News has seen a copy of the letters President Kenyatta personally signed to each of the affected families.

“I write to you with great pain and sadness hoping to share a few words of comfort and sympathy over the untimely and violent death of your daughter … by the hand of terrorists… (the victim) was a young productive person of great promise. She had every right to live and realise her dream in life, and you had every right to expect much from the sacrifice, love and support invested in her growth and development.”

State House confirmed that the president had personally signed 130 letters while others would be signed later once the identification process of the remaining bodies is concluded.

In the letter, the Head of State seeks to assure the families that he stands firmly with them during this grieving moment while at the same time pledging government support.

“The whole nation stands with you at this difficult and painful time. My government will provide all the support you will need to come to terms and eventually try to move past this bitter cup,” he asserted.

Families have already started collecting bodies from the Chiromo mortuary with the funerals set to start on Friday.

At least 142 students were executed in cold blood at the Garissa University College last Thursday, before six security officers were also killed while trying to save them.
