President Kenyatta returns from official visit to Jordan, Ethiopia

JKIA-JORDAN-ARRIVALNAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 21 —President Uhuru Kenyatta returned to the country on Monday evening after his official visit to Ethiopia and the Kingdom of Jordan where he attended summits on how to combat terrorism and radicalisation.

On Saturday, the President attended the fourth Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa at Bahr Dar, Ethiopia, with the theme ‘Secularism and Politicised Faith’.

The forum was attended by more than 200 participants including Heads of State and was dedicated to finding African solutions for Africa’s security challenges.

On Sunday, President Kenyatta attended The Horn of Africa Coordination Meeting at the city of Aqaba, Jordan, that focused on how to confront the threat of terrorism facing the Horn of Africa.

The President and three other regional leaders also held a closed-door meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The other leaders who attended the meeting were Presidents Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania who is also the chairman of the East Africa Community, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh (Djibouti) and Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud (Somalia).

The meeting is part of efforts to strengthen coordination between regional and international partners in the fight against extremism and terror.

The security related meetings come against the backdrop of the threats posed by the politicisation and exploitation of religion by extremists to commit violence against innocent people in countries including Kenya.

President Kenyatta expressed Kenya’s commitment to continue with its military intervention in Somalia to support the Federal Government of Somalia to weaken terrorist networks that pose threats to the two countries and the whole region.
