Nicholas Gumbo replaces Ababu as PAC chairman

A member of the CORD leadership who did not want to be named had hinted that although the party had a preferred candidate, they were giving democracy a chance to ensure fairness.

“You may be the chairman of the party and you may be good for the leadership, but there may be a better person for the job. Why would the Jubilee rally to vote for a person? Probably because they want to use him for certain purposes, but if this happens, there will be consequences,” he warned.

“We expect people beyond reproach, we want people who will not bring shame to the party,” he added.

On March 5, PAC then chaired by Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba, was suspended to allow the Powers and Privileges Committee to investigate allegations of corruption, compromise and deceit by the members of the committee.

On completion of the probe, five members were sanctioned after they failed to substantiate corruption allegations they made against each other in the February 26 committee sitting with the privileges committee proposing their barring from the new committee.

The five were Namwamba, Abbas Mohammed (Ijara), Omondi Anyanga (Nyatike) Samuel Arama and Cecily Mbarire (Runyenjes).
