NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 17 – The death toll from a bus that was swept by flash floods in Mandera rose to five as rescue operations resumed on Friday.
This was after the body of a child was recovered on being spotted by a Kenya Red Cross air surveillance team along River Gadudia.
Despite the number of passengers who were on the bus being estimated at 50, the Red Cross team was on Friday conducting follow up interviews with the survivors and bus driver to ensure no one was left unaccounted for.
“The search is resuming because the water levels have reduced,” a Kenya Red Cross official told Capital FM News.
As of Thursday evening four people were missing when the six-hour rescue exercise was halted due to insecurity concerns.

Heavy rains have pounded parts of the country following the onset of the long rains which the Kenya Meteorological Service projects will continue into May.
Counties in Western, Central and the Rift Valley, it stated, are the most prone to flooding as they are expected to receive higher than normal levels of rainfall.
A week ago following a heavy downpour in Bondo, five people drowned in seperate incidents.
