Taita Taveta MP Naomi Shaban took issue with the fact women are being treated like ‘trash’ pointing out that women who were nominated as Members of Parliament numbering 47, were being disparaged by the male legislators despite the provision being entrenched in the Constitution.
“We are being ridiculed and disrespected and what is worse is that the media is playing a huge role, it is a sad state of affairs,” she said.
She added that men should realise that sexual offences were not only targeted at women and girls but boys and men were also being sodomized and thus why men should stand together with women in fighting the vice.
She said all sexual offenders whether honourable member or a ‘common mwananchi’ should be punished to serve as a lesson.
