NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 28 – Three cabinet secretaries and one Principal Secretary have confirmed that they have vacated their offices in the wake of the directive by the President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday during his State of the Nation address.

Agriculture CS Felix Koskei was the first to heed to the President’s order saying his conscience was clear and he would be vindicated from the allegations which he said he was not aware of since he had not been summoned by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission.

“As it stands I do not know what the allegations are, I am innocent and I will be going to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission on Monday to know what the allegations are and write a proper statement,” Koskei said.

Later, State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu convened a media briefing where he indicated that more CSs and State Officers implicated in the report by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission investigating graft had also complied with the President’s directive.

He also stated that the President had appointed other CSs to replace the ones who had stepped down for the period they would be away.

Soon after the address, Infrastructure and Transport Cabinet Secretary Eng Michael Kamau made his decision to step aside known.

“I am stepping aside to pave way for those investigating the allegations against me to do their job without my interference in their job—I am sure the allegations against me will be proved untrue and I will be cleared in due course. I fully support the fight against corruption,” Kamau said.

He said his 32 year stint in government had served him well saying he had no regrets, also saying he really did not know what allegations had been levelled against him.

“In this Ministry of Roads which I have served, we have very many issues which the EACC continues to investigate so I am not sure what they are. I have been a PS since 2007 so I don’t know which area they are looking into. I have appeared severally before the Public Accounts Committee so I don’t know any specific issues they may be raising,” Kamau added.
